Family Advocacy and Support

OxFSN provides information, advice and support to families of children, young people and adults with learning disabilities.

We have a small team of Family Advocates who are all family carers of children or adults with learning disabilities. Each advocate has skills in different areas. And, while none of us claim to ‘know it all’ if we don’t know the answer to your query then we will know someone who probably will and can signpost you in the right direction.

Our advocates currently provide this service in a voluntary capacity. Due to the increase in demand for this kind of support we are now looking for funding to enable us to offer this service in a more consistent and organised way, so please bear with us and watch this space for updates.

We aim to:

  • Provide specific advice via telephone or email. See out contact page for details.
  • In complex cases provide a family advocate for meetings with professionals. Unfortunately we can’t offer this service to everyone at this time.
  • Hold events and workshops on specific issues.
